What we collect, and why

We do not use cookies, analytics or trackers of any kind. There is no advertising or analytics script on this site, no third-party CDN, and no embedded third-party player. The fonts on this site are bundled with the site itself, not loaded from an outside service.

Information stored only on your own device. To remember a few simple preferences between visits, the site stores small pieces of information in your browser — never on our servers, never sent to us or to anyone else:

• your choice of day or night theme
• your sound preference on the village page
• your choice between the 3D village and its flat version
• whether you have already seen the village's opening animation this visit
• whether you are returning to the village from one of its houses

The last two clear themselves automatically when you close the browser tab. All of them can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser's site data. None of this information identifies you, and none of it leaves your device.

Server access logs. Like effectively every website, our hosting provider’s server automatically records standard technical information for each visit — things like IP address, the page requested, browser type, and the time of the request. This is routine web-server logging, kept for security and troubleshooting, not used to build a profile of you. Our host is Misshosting, based in Sweden.

If you email us, or use the contact form. If you write to us at contact@ashaarchives.com, or use the contact form on this site, we receive whatever you sent — your address and your message. The contact form sends straight to our email inbox and is not stored in a database on the server. Either way, we use it only to answer you, and keep it only as long as needed to do that and for a reasonable time after in case you follow up.

If you sign up for the newsletter. If you sign up using the newsletter box in the footer, we keep your email address only to send you the newsletter when one goes out, and you can ask us to remove it at any time by writing to news@ashaarchives.com.

Links to other sites. This site links out to our shop (currently hosted on Shopify), to our social media accounts (X, YouTube, Truth Social, Instagram), and in places within individual articles to other websites (for example, a video hosted on YouTube). Once you follow any of those links you are on someone else’s site, governed by their own privacy policy, not this one. Our shop has its own privacy policy, which applies once you are shopping there.

Coming later — not live yet

The following are planned but do not exist on the site today. This policy will be updated, and this section replaced with the real terms, before either goes live:

• The Drop, a recurring monthly or yearly contribution to ASHA Initiative, Inc.
• The Shopify shop moving fully in-house (it currently has its own separate privacy policy, linked where you shop).

Legal basis for processing (for visitors in the EU/EEA and UK)

• The device-only preferences above are stored using functionality that is strictly necessary for the site to work the way you have asked it to (remembering your theme, sound and animation choices). Under the ePrivacy rules, storage of this kind — whether a cookie or, as here, browser storage — does not require consent when it is strictly necessary to provide a feature you have actively requested. Nothing here is sent to us or to anyone else.
• Server access logs are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working.
• If you email us, we process that message on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to your query and continuing the correspondence.

How long we keep things

Server access logs are kept by our hosting provider, Misshosting, under its own privacy policy (misshosting.com/privacy-policy), and are deleted once they are no longer needed. Emails are kept only as long as reasonably needed to deal with your query. We do not otherwise hold a database of visitors, because we do not collect anything that would let us build one.

Your rights

Depending on where you are, you may have the right to ask us: what personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to limit how we use it, to receive a copy of it, and to object to our processing it. Because this site does not collect an account, a profile or an identifying record about visitors who simply browse it, in most cases we will have nothing to show you beyond your own emails to us — but you are always welcome to ask.

If you are in the EU/EEA or the UK and are not satisfied with our answer, you have the right to complain to your local data protection supervisory authority.

International transfers

This site is hosted with Misshosting in Sweden (EU/EEA). If you email us, that message may be handled and stored using services located outside your own country, including possibly outside the EU/EEA. We take reasonable care in choosing who we work with, but a fuller international-transfer statement will be added here if and when a service that requires one (such as Stripe, for The Drop) actually goes live.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The device-only preferences described above do not identify anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page as the site changes — in particular, when The Drop and the in-house shop go live. We will change the "last updated" date above whenever we do.
